Rabbi Moshe ben Nachman, b. 1194 Girona, Spain, d. 1270 in Israel (where he established a Jewish community in Jerusalem soon after the Crusade of 1099). He was a polymath – he wrote an essential commentary on the Talmud, responded to Halakhic questions and was a master of Kabala. His commentary on the Chumash is a foundational work.
